Ashland Blog

News from Ashland for April 28, 2010

I found the greatest website recently. It's called Anna Eats Ashland and it's really cool. Anna has categorized all of the restaurants in Ashland in a variety of helpful ways, and also tagged all of them by their approximate price range. She also has interviews with chefs(!), and promises a wide range of reviews as time goes by. She also keeps up with the various foodie-related events in town, such as the recently concluded Taste of Ashland. Anna also seems to have a great energy and wit to her writing to boot! I can't recommend her site enough - check her out!

News from Ashland for March 05, 2010

Kind of a mix between Ashland Blog and Developer Blog, but what the hey. I'd really like to hear from anyone in Ashland who'd like to review ... well, practically anything. Theater, restaurants, hotel/motel/b&bs, even straight up retail shops (not chains, the local boutiques in Ashland naturally). The way the site is set up, once I publish a review anybody can respond with their own review. That said, I'm not going to get around to EVERYTHING any time soon. Anyway, I'd love to get (in particular) all of the Oregon Cabaret shows reviewed, and getting a lot of lodging reviews will only ever happen with help. Contact me at john (at) ashlandlink (dot) com if you're interested!

News from Ashland for June 13, 2009

The next round of commissions for the American History cycle was announced at a press conference in the lobby of the Bowmer Theatre, details of which can be found here. More details will be posted later tonight.

Apparently, during the June 11th performance of Servant of Two Masters at OSF, Eileen DeSandre fell so ill with food poisoning during the production that she was unable to go back on after intermission. Other shows might pull in an emergency understudy but, with improvisation already a key part of the show, the rest of the cast decided to work it out as they went along. According to the accounts I heard, the audience was none the wiser. Wow.

TheExecutive Director of OSF,  Paul Nicholson, states the obvious regarding swine flu-related travel advisories and the potential impact on Ashland - they're screwed. We know from olden times that theaters were accused of breeding diseases, but now it looks like the diseases are threatening the theater. Et tu, Brute?

Shock! Traffic stop turns into drug bust; somebody is growing weed in Southern Oregon.

News from Ashland for January 30, 2009

Thank goodness, since the last time I posted not only were several costumes and accessories stolen from Oregon Shakespeare Festival, they have already been returned. Any bets on how many of person X's friends said "dude, that's not cool"?

Geek out two-fer! The movie adaptation of Coraline, a young adult novel written by personal favorite Neil Gaiman, has set the action in Ashland.

So here's an interesting tidbit - OSF is auditioning for the 2010 season. Already. Shows what I know about the theater world, they're taking auditions already.

To the surprise of absolutely no one, rents are trending down in Ashland as the economy worsens. This particular article doesn't specifically mention vacation rentals but you've got to imagine the story is much the same.
